As hygienists, we see an increasing number of patients with dental implants. Part of our process of care must include close inspection to determine the implant’s health and any potential risks to long term success. This course will review common risk factors that lead to the loss of soft and hard tissue support. Surgical and non-surgical cases will be reviewed to aid the clinician in understanding the available treatment modalities and how to predict their success.
Identify factors that increase the risk for tissue deficiencies around dental implants
Review non-surgical and common surgical techniques for tissue repair/regeneration
Learn when intervention is indicated and recognize cases where non-surgical techniques may be most successful
Discuss implant success versus survival and ‘reasonable’ health
