Local Anesthetic Options and Techniques for the Oral Health Professional
Course Description:
Understanding which anesthetic is best for your patient can be challenging especially when there are so many options available. This intermediate level course guides the learner through the science of anesthetics used in dentistry, including non-injectable, injectable, and additional solutions to aid in the anesthesia process. Also, attendees gain insights into providing quadrant anesthesia focused on injection techniques for the PSA, IO, AMSA, IA and GG injections.

After this course the learner will be able to:
Identify different non-injectable anesthetic options.
Identify which injections to select for the clinical procedure.
Identify anatomical structures related to the PSA, IO, AMSA, IA, and GG injections.
Understand delivery technique for the PSA, IO, AMSA, IA, and GG injection.
Employ atraumatic injection techniques.
Select appropriate anesthetic options for the patient and clinical procedure.

A nationally published author, and founder of Teacher Tina RDH, she keeps her skills and knowledge current while continuing to serve the profession as a clinician, educator, trainer, speaker. In addition, Tina is an approved provider by the Oregon Board of Dentistry to provide education for the initial permit for local anesthesia. Tina is recognized by the Oregon Board of Dentistry as a provider for local anesthesia permit certification, is a certified CPR/BLS instructor, and an approved continuing education provider by the American Academy of Dental Hygiene. She became the first dental professional in Vermont certified in Perioscopy, CO2, Diode and Nd:Yag laser use and Guided Biofilm Therapy. She earned both her BA and Dental Hygiene degree at the University of Vermont and MBA from Champlain College. Nicole is currently working with Young Innovations as Clinical Education Manager.
